First, Dan explains "Cow-fan". "My dad used to tease our daughter when she was a youngster that what we know as windmills were "cow fans" since the cows hung around them during the hot weather, expecting the fan to blow air on them. So in our family the windmills are referred to as "Cow Fans". During the summer of 2014 I was in Eastern Colorado photographing the wheat harvest by day. With the area being so remote and dark, I spent several nights capturing the Milky way. I had located several places during the day that looked like they might work well, and returned after dark to capture images like this. In order to avoid trouble I notified the County Sheriff and Game Warden so that if they saw my headlamp they wouldn't think I was out poaching. One must be careful not to encounter wildlife like skunks, raccoons, and rattle snakes when capturing images such as this."
