The Code of the West is an unwritten, socially agreed upon set of informal laws shaping the cowboy culture of the Old West.  A man's handshake was his bond...like a contract.  It is clearly shown in this image of Frank and Kelly as they extend their hand to "bond" with the other.  Dan was able to capture this instance while on the Bar S ranch in the Bitterroot Mountains of Idaho.
